Self Portrait.?!?..

Before starting the post itself , and start showing the stamps I have today , I like to tell you something i have discovered last night... ; one of the stamps of the 1954 "Profession" series from Czechoslovakia that I used in my last post , was designed by Cyril Bouda , a Master Illustrator... if You put side by side , a photo of Bouda and the stamp , we notice that it is the Artist itself that goes "riding" the train, and the stamp is nothing more than a Self Portrait..
It is sourly a know fact [ by the Czeck Post personal and the Engraver ]  but I didn't realize it until now , so I think it could be a fact of interest...

I will begin with some stamps from China PRC..the stamps are from a beautiful definitive series from 1981/1983 "China Scenery"

when I was ' surfing ' the Net , trying to find available data for Chinese stamps, I noticed that prices of the stamps from the beginning of the 80's are starting to rise, with some commemorative series already at high prices.. I think that we have to live with this fact , and eventually all stamps from the 80's will reach higher prices , due to the increasing demand..
[Des] This beautiful landscapes were designed by Chen Xiaocun and  Jiang Weijie.. I managed to get all the data I want but in this particular case , I cannot specify what stamps have been the work of each of the Artists ( same thing with the engravers..)

The rest of this post is dedicated to Colombia stamps.. I want to highlight the influence of some British Printing Houses in this period of time of Colombian Philately... Company's like Waterlow and sons, Perkins Bacon & Co. and Thomas De La Rue capitalize most of the work from the early days  until the 30's , 40's..

This first stamp I have to present , is damaged , I know (!) but it is beautiful...!! I don't know what is the purpose of the Hand writing , but it ruins the stamp (At least that's what I think..).
the stamp, showing us the Tequendama Waterfalls , belongs to series (2) 1917 "Landscapes (??)"
For these Colombian stamps , I could not manage to get Designers and engravers data... in this case , even the Printing is unknown .

The General

New Entries

Today , I'll present some stamps from Yugoslavia and Colombia..

The group of stamps presented above is a mix of two series... Two incomplete series , one (8) [the 2p stamp is missing] representing King Alexander of Yugoslavia and the other (5) [the 10d stamp is missing] King Peter I of Yugoslavia...they are grouped in just one series in the Scott Catalog because they all present the label  "Kraljevstvo", below the King's picture... As you can see in the stamp at the right , the label is "Kraljevina" , and it belongs to another posterior series equal in all other labels and pictures..

B) Incomplete series "King Peter I (1921)" SG(173,...,176) Sc(10,...,13)

In one of the first posts of this Blog, I have presented 4 of the 14 stamps of this series.. however I need to say that there are two similar series (similar design but this one has an extra label in the inferior frame)
Series (14) "King Alexander (1931/1934)"

SG(255) Sc(73)

five stamps from the "King Alexander Memorial Series" (14) from 1934..
Perf: 12.5
SG(305,...,309) Sc(102,...,106)

Complete series from 1899 "General José Maria Córdoba" ; it is a series from Colombia , but also from the Antioquia Province..
when I saw these stamps, I immediately went to the NET to see other images of the stamps, because they seem to me with a very bad printing... they all look the same , so I concluded that they were "genuine"... the curious thing is that the printing from the frames is good but the central design and printing of the General is very bad , and the design it self is not very perfect....I also think that there was no reason to make a falsification , because of the very small catalog value of these stamps...
Perf: 11.5 [other perforations and even imperforated stamps exists...]

Three Portraits

New Entries

I like to start this post by saying that I am a little sad about my priorities... despite my miserable financial condition , I couldn't resist to buy some stamps last week ... very good prices and above everything the opportunity..!
Tomorrow I will show what I have received Yesterday morning... it is just a set , but an important one.. Beautiful stamps..!

Today I have some stamps from Colombia and I will need some more posts to end their classification , because the waiting list is long..

When I was choosing which stamps to classify and after a superficial view , I saw that from the classic Years until almost the 60's , Colombia's Philately was a "battle field" of Giant Engraver Company's.. We find Waterlow & Sons, American Bank Note Co, Thomas De La Rue, etc..
this particular series is worked by Perkins, Bacon Co, Ltd .. This is not a negative comment.. The quality and beauty of the stamps is almost guaranteed.!.
The series is a mix of important personalities, coat of arms, Monuments, and views from Colombia...[ The Independence from Spanish Empire is the main subject of the Series..)
The personalities represented are : 1)Francisco José De Caldas (Founder of the city of Caldas and the Colombian  Department of Caldas )
2) Camilo Torres, Politician and Advocate.
3) Antonio Nariño, Political and Military leader of the Independence Movement.
4) Simon Bolivar, a Political and Military Leader..Led Venezuela, Colombia, Equador, Peru and Bolivia to the Independence from the Spanish Empire.
5) José Maria Córdova , General from the Colombian Army in the Latin America War against Spain...
The Perforation is 14 for all the 12 stamps of the series..
It was issued during 1917...

[Right] stamp issued in 1924 , from a series of 4 , representing Simon Bolivar.

The Coat of Arms of the city of Bogotá is represented in this stamp, from a set 7 1938 "400th Anniversary of Bogotá"..
Perf: 14

two stamps are presented, with the same subject ("picking cofee")..Both are printed and engraved by The American Bank Note Co.; the 1st is from 1934 and the 2nd from 1939 .. The 1st was issued alone and the 2nd in a set 8( with various motifs..)
As You can see the 2nd stamp has an curious overprint .. it is a "Victory" Overprint from 1945 with the portraits of Roosevelt, Stalin and Churchill, representing themselves the major winning parts (if there is a winner in a War....) .. it is also necessary to say that there are 3 possible overprints (in Black, Red or Green..)
Perf: 12
Sc(420,521)

from a set 6 1947 "Colombian Orchids"
Perf: 12
Sc(548)

Complete set from 1949 "75th Anniv of National Agricultural Society." ; the stamp represents Juan De Dios Carrasquilla, founder of the society.
Perf: 12.5
Sc(572)

These are small but beautiful stamps from 1952.. picking up again the conversation about Engraver company's, I don't resist to say that these are the most recent stamps from Waterlow & Sons, that I know of.. I am sure that there are others more recent ( the 1953 example , shown below..) , because Waterlow was acquired by De La Rue , only in 1961..
