Poets and Saints

New Entries

My objective today is to make a short post just with two series from India.. As I said before I've finally bought a good lot of stamps from India and Pakistan.. it is with a big smile on my face that I finally will show a series of Commemorative stamps from India.. you know, they are not easy to get here in Portugal, and even in the Net , the offer of this stamps is not great as in other cases..
The first group of stamps I have to show is from the 1st Standard Series from India .. The Year is 1949 and we are still living those Revolution Days of the Ghandi Era... this series show us Religion and monuments motifs.. it is a beautiful series with lots of 'Rich' stamps , because they all have many history and Knowledge to offer us... It is a relatively common series , so it is no 'revelation' to nobody... the lower values are all Typographed and the higher ones (the rupee values..) are lithographed.. I will show the stamps individually , for better appreciation...,
As I said before each of the stamps represent something that has a meaning and an history... I think that all the information is gathered on the NET , and so it doesn't make sense that I loose time explaining with my words something that is already correctly explained.. so I will leave links to Wikipedia or other relevant sites and videos when available.. if You are interested , just click them...
This series has 16 stamps , so there are 3 still missing.. I say 3 because one of them ( the 3p stamp) already is in the collection and appeared in an earlier post...the 3.50A, the 10r and the 15r are missing..

1949 "Standard Issue 1949" (16,16) [Des (T.I. Archer)(I.M. Das)][Typo (6p,9p,1A,2A,3A,4A,8A,12A)][Litho (1r,2r,5r)] Sc(208,209,210,211,212,214,215,216,217,218,219,220)

Ok, we have finished the tour to the Taj Mahal and it's romantic story, so let us continue with the next series of stamps, finally a commemorative one..!..
it is a series from 1952 dedicated to the Saints and Poets of India..
I don't have yet the data from these stamps (designers , etc), but it is arriving one of these days to my house... the personalities presented are : Kabir , TulsidasMeera  , Surdas , Ghalib and  Rabindranath Tagore

New Entries

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am trying to impose a new rhythm , more paused and leisurely , to the blog with the intent of dispel the idea of the blog as a work... work is something that we must do .. it means stress, and for me stress is not a pleasure .. I am trying to do something , that in it's essence is a pleasure (stamp collecting..) but with a rhythm that brings me also displeasure..
After thinking a while about this , I have concluded that the solution is decrease the rhythm , to achieve only pleasure when I'm making a new post...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Two weeks ago , I start working with stamps on paper ... some of them , from letters I received and others from a lot I have bought 5 or 6 months ago...
Here are some stamps from that lot... USA, India and Taiwan.

Here we have a complete series of 1939 "150th Anniv of Election of Washington as First President." ; at the [right] we have the same stamp but imperforated in the top, bottom and right side's.. I only present this stamps , because they appeared , with some paper attached.. and I though it was funny showing them.. I think the colors remain very good, after all the process...

SG(849) Sc(852)

Fortunately I already have the other stamp of this 1940 series (5) "Famous Americans : Educators" ; I felt surprised with the quality of the stamps in this lot, particularly these one's from the USA.. nice perforations, beautiful colors, etc..
The Personalities represented are :

Now , some of you are already thinking "And now, this Post mark doesn't  bother him??" ; and the answer is "No"... No , because I am truly delighted with this post mark.. it is beautiful.. it remember's me the post marks from the early stamps from Japan.. they are beautiful!! I don't know what they say , but they are beautiful.. remarkable..!! I think that these post marks give value to the stamp.. (it is my way of thinking ..!!)

beautiful stamp from a large series of 16 issued 1949..You will see that most part of these stamps from India I present, have a bad overall aspect but some of them are from 2000 or more recent..,, strange...

Perf: 14
SG(309) Sc(207) [Wmk]

These are stamps from two different series, with the same designs... the first two stamps are from a series (18) 1965/1968 and the 3rd and 4th are from a series (21) 1975/1978... the main difference between these series is that in the 1965 series a currency label is presented and in the 2nd series, only the value is presented , without currency label.
The Perforations are the same ( 14 x 14.5) fot both series..

Gandhi,Nehru, The War and the Cold North Wind

New Entries

I am "walking" the first steps in India Philately.. I only have 10 or 11 stamps from India ; In the last World lot I bought , 3 stamps appeared..
My Imaginary India was created by a mix of reading, watching , and listening ...reading the books by Emilio Salgari in my infant days, many of them with adventurous story's that take place in India ; watching movies like "Close Encounters of the 3rd kind" or "Gandhi" (the voyage aboard that chaotic train, with some fantastic music, the crowds , the old people, all of that left a solid desire to go there , someday...);listening to the Fusion approach to Indian music by John Mclaughlin helped my "Want to know more" about India's Music and Culture...
Gandhi and Nehru are XX Century "Planet Scale" personalities and were creators of some of the knowledge we will pass to Future Generations.
I was, of course, very happy for having these 2 stamps in particular..
Here in Portugal, it is difficult to get Commemorative stamps from India; I only find those common sets of definitive stamps (not very appealing...). Perhaps now is a good time to start.!.
These stamps are from a set 21 that was issued starting in 1975 and ending in 1988. Both are from 1976 ; the Wmk is beautifully visible ...There is a problem , again (??)!! I don't know the name of the series.!. The world Catalogs I use , don't give a name to it.. To classify the Nehru stamp, we have to be aware that there are 3 different possibilities..I think that the 3 characters below the currency are the key.. the last one of them, could have 3, 2 or 1 little leg, corresponding to different catalog values...
I must ask that You leave comments to correct me, because it is highly probable that I'm saying stupid things...In other Philately's I am currently in "Scholl", but in India's I'm just in the "nursery"(I'm just a new born Philatelic child..!!)Valid corrections will be Updated to these posts..
