Turkey Stamps [8th Post]

New Entries

I have designated this post to show some new Turkish entries in the collection... but two possibilities were 'on the table'... or showing and talking of two large series of definitive stamps, or a group of several series from the 40's to the 60's...In the end , I choose the last option and so we will have many small series ,most of them completed...
I want to talk a little about the changes I've made in the Post Title's...in the old way , I choose a stamp or a group of stamps showed in the post to create the title... the problem is that after a small analysis to the Blog movement of viewers , sometimes people just appear in the blog waiting for something else... they were unwittingly 'deceived' by the title.. they enter the blog and leave almost immediately.. well I don't like to deceive people , so the new titles will say exactly what is the content of the post (what is the post about..)..I think this is the correct thing to do...!

all the stamps that will be shown today in this post are [Photo] Printed... the Scanner resolution is 300ppp for all stamps..

the stamp represents President Ataturk in the role of Professor teaching young students...
1938 "10th Anniversary of the Reform of the Turkish Alphabet" (6) [Photo (Courvoisier)] Sc(802)

These are the stamps that were missing in this series.. the others were presented in a previous post...it is a very famous series with focus on the figure of Kemal Ataturk.
1939 1st Death Anniv of Kemal Ataturk (8) [Photo (Courvoisier)] Sc(833,834,837,840)

1947 "International Railroad Congress, Istanbul" (3) [Photo (Courvoisier)] Sc(960,...,962)

1956 "20th Anniversary of the Death of Mehmet Akif Ersoy (Author of the Turkish National Anthem) (3) [Photo (Ankara)] Sc(1219,...,1221)

1957 "400th Death Anniversary of Fuzuli (Muhammad bin Suleyman) / Poet" (1) [Photo (Istanbul)] Sc(1258)

1960 "Independence of the Republic of Cyprus" (2) [Photo] Sc(1484,1485)

A nice series about the Olympics of Rome in 1960...
1960 "17th Olympic Games , Rome" (5) [Photo (Courvoisier)] Sc(1488,...,1492)

1960 "Centenary of the Journalism in Turkey" (2) [Photo (Courvoisier)] Sc(1495,1496)

1960 "Revolution of 27 May of 1960" (4) [Photo (Harrison and Sons, Ltd)] Sc(1502,...,1505)

This period of Turkish Philately is rich in 'poster like' designs... in fact, many of the Stamp Designers (in the World..) from the 40's, 50's and 60's were Poster designer's and worked  for the industry of Publicity and Marketing or just for the war effort (in the 40's) ...this series is a good example of that Background with at least two designs that could be very nice posters or movie advertisers...
1961 "50th Anniversary of Turkish Air Force" (3) [Photo (Istanbul)] Sc(1515,...,1517)

A series about an Astronomical Observatory in Turkey... two views of the building and what could be a sextant (I don't know what it is...) , together with a portrait of Fatin Gokmen (1877/1955) , astronomer responsible for the constant upgrade of the Kandilii Observatory...he was recently honored with his name in one of the last Astronomical Discovery (a dwarf planet, now called Fatin.)... these far and distant objects ,first receive a name only with numbers , but then they are a good opportunity for the International Scientific Community to honor the Global Heroes of the Past...  Nice..!
1961 "50th Anniversary of the Kandilli Observatory" (4) [Photo (Istanbul)] Sc(B81,...,B84)

1963 "600th Anniversary of the Conquest of Edirne (Adrianople)" (4) [Photo (Istanbul)] Sc(1587,...,1590)

Kemal Ataturk represented again in this series commemorating the Anniversary of the Republic...
1963 "40th Anniversary of Turkish Republic" (3) [Photo (Istanbul)] Sc(1604,...,1606)

the stamp with Kemal Ataturk staring at the Airplanes in formation,is very well imagined.. nice stamp..
1965 "40th Anniversary of the Turkish Aviation League" (3) [Photo (Istanbul)] Sc(1633,...,1635)

These are very good representatives of the Graphic Design applied to stamps..
1965 "Telecomunications Meeting of the Central Treaty Organization (CENTO)" (3) [Photo (Istanbul)] Sc(1636,...,1638)

3 large stamps ...
1966 "400th Anniversary of the Death of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent" (3) [Photo (Ankara)] Sc(1715,...,1717)

It is the end of the post and I want to say that I don't like doing this kind of posts , just showing stamps and without no personal opinions, but today it is what  I've got , because I'm  again in a 'no talk' kind of day...

Five Series

New Entries

I have five series to show you today... the first two are from Russia and the others from Turkey...

This is a beautiful series from Russia and as You can easily see the topic are the Sports and the Olympics of 1960...Sports stamps are seen as one of the strong points of the USSR and Satellite Countries Philately's . The sport activity was strongly financed and promoted by a state eager of International Recognition... as we all know Sports are seen as a  sign of development , so we cannot find surprising the fact of so much investment in the Sport Activity when USSR had a so strong adversary as the United States...
The specialization in the stamp Designing in those days , led to the appearance of designers that only worked with Sport stamps, like in Czechoslovakia , Romania and other Eastern countries... the result was the issue of some spectacular series of this topic... I think this one is very well designed , but as in many other cases should be engraved and  [Recess] printed...
1960 "XVII Olympic Games" (10) [Des (Vasili Zavyalov (5k,20k,40 k Blue, 60k)(A. Zavyalov others)][Litho] Sc(2359,...,2368)

I deliberately inverted the usual chronological order just to present first a non engraved series and now a engraved and [Recess] printed series... I think that this is a great series with a very good engraving and excellent design... Once more , I think it is time for us ,collectors, to say or do something about the current status of the stamps that are offered for us to collect in our days.. We must react , because future collectors ( those who will collect today's stamps ) will buy and waste their money in a very dubious product... MOST PART OF THE STAMPS THAT ARE PRODUCED TODAY HAVE NO QUALITY, NO MEANING, NO ARTISTS (DESIGNERS AND ENGRAVERS..) AND ARE SOFTWARE PRODUCTS...IT IS A SHAME !!!!
these stamps are still good stamps and the 70's and 80's were still good years for Philately , but from the middle of the 90's until now we have seeing the decay of all we like and value most... if we were talking of Wines we would now be drinking VINEGAR.!!

Unfortunately , I don't know who is the Engraver but he seems to be , for me , the only one that worked in this series, because the engraving is similar in all the vignettes ...(I could be wrong..!!!) .. Please see stamp by stamp... they are beautiful !!!
1958 "Capitals of Soviet Republics" (15) [Des (S. Pomansky)][Recess] Sc(2120,...,2134)

[ I have received a comment of Anton D, and it says that the Artists (both painters and engravers) S. Pomansky, S. Alferov, L. Mayorov, Mikheev, I. Mokrousov, T. Nikitina I. Sapronov, and V. Smirnov all worked in this series... it is difficult for me right now to distinguish the painters and the engravers, but I left here this info ... it seems that I was wrong..!. I want to thank Anton D. for this very useful comment ...] [Updated 27/09/2015 12:05]

[ Just now, I received another comment with the specification of the engravers work.. As you have noticed , each stamp represents a Capital city and " Почтовые марки/ Postage stamps " gave me the correct relation of the stamps where each engraver have worked... here it is... :
S.Aferov (Москва./Moscow.),
L.Mayorova (Киев./Kiev.,Минск./Minsk.,Ереван./Yerevan.),
N.Mikheyev (Кишинев./Kishinev.,Ашхабад./Ashkhabad.),
I.Mokrousov (Тбилиси./Tbilisi.,Фрунзе./Frunze.),
T.Nikitina (Москва./Moscow.,Алма-Ата./Alma-Ata.,Сталинабад./Stalinabad.),
I.Sapronov (Баку./Baku.,Вильнюс./Vilnius.,Рига./Riga.) and V.Smirnov (Ташкент./Tashkent). ] [ Updated 01/10/2015 17:47]

TURKEY
------------
to start now this section of the post dedicated to Turkey stamps, I have another one of the countless stamps representing President  Kemal Ataturk...

This is a small series , with just two stamps, with the particularity of being [Litho] printed with the Center portrait Embossed.. I think the Emboss effect could have been more strengthened (it is clearly sensed by our fingers but it should be more enhanced to the view ).. the SS presents us a non perforated stamp...
1959 "Kemal Ataturk" (1+SS) [Litho (State Printing works, Berlin)] Sc(1472,1472a)

This is a series commemorating a Philatelic Meeting in Istanbul.. the stamps are very well printed, and two FDC's are also presented..several famous stamps from early days are represented together with famous sights or buildings from Turkey...
1963 "Istanbul International Stamp Exhibition" (5) [Litho (APA Ofset Basimevi, Istambul)] Sc(1596,...,1600)

This last series is a commemoration of the Issue of the first Turkish Postage stamps... As we know we were at the Ottoman Days , and the stamps represent the Sultan's Tughra ... in the case of these first stamps issued in 1863 we are talking of  Sultan Abdul Aziz (1861/1876) ... these stamps are [photo] printed reproductions of that early issue , and like in the above series, there is also a FDC and two SS , one with Postmark and other without...
1963 "Centenary of First Turkish Postage Stamps" (4) [Photo (Tifdruk Matbaacilik Sanayii A.S., Istambul)] Sc(1560,...,1563)]

I hope you like this small post, with my personal emphasis in the 2nd series from Russia with it's beautiful Designs and Good engraving...
