The Goddess, a Poem and the Puppets

New Entries

stamp from the set 2 1995 "World Heritage Sites (2nd series)" ; it represents the Goddess Kannon..
I want to say something about the stamps I present today; I have this lot at home for a long time, and Yesterday when I was classifying them I noted the presence in most of them, of these wavy postmarks , that can deteriorate the overall aspect of the stamp... the stamps are in good shape but ...

this is a stamp from the set 2 1995 "Cultural Pionners" and represents the painter Hayami Gyoshu.. when I'm talking here about Culture , I must say that Japan has one of my "most Wanted" series "Men of Culture series" 1949 ; only have 2/18 stamps of this series and they are somehow rare...
Perf: 13
SG(2326)  Sc(2535)

these stamps represent a Japanese classical form of Theatre ("Kabuki).
The 1st 2 stamps are from a complete series of 1991 "Kabuki Series / 2nd. Issue" and the 3rd is from a series of 2 from 1992 "Kabuki Series (5th series)" .. They all belong to the same series , but different issues , from 1991 to 1992 (the total is  6 series of 2).
Perf : 13 and 13.5 (The bigger stamps have 13.5 of perforation, while the smaller have 13)

Complete set 1987 "Philatelic Week. Paintings by Goyo Hashiguchi."; Philatelic Week is one of the famous Japan series, because it has been issued since 1948, year when the chrysanthemum seal was banned from stamp production.. some of the earlier stamps have already significant catalog values...(that is not the case of these 2 stamps...)

This is a stamp from a beautiful Series 40 1987/1989. I've been searching for stamps of this set , and I've got now 35 stamps.. the series is about a poem ""Narrow Road to a Far Province" by Basho Matsuo"; the set is dived in 10 groups of 4 stamps; each group has 2 stamps with the poem itself and 2 stamps with beautiful landscapes or designs. It is , without doubts another "must have" situation..!
This stamp in particular belongs to a set 1988 ""Narrow Road to a Far Province" by Basho Matsuo 4th Issue"

while the 1st stamp has a beautiful postmark, that annoys nobody, the 2nd is almost destroyed by a terrible wavy postmark..

The Queen, The President and the Hot Desert Sand..

New Entries

3 stamps from the set 27 1898 "Queen Wilhelmina 1898/1924" ; at least one of the stamps from this set was issued only in 1924 , what gives us a long period of circulation for some of them. It is possible to see a "terrible" postmark on the stamp of 10c (it is a weird cancellation for this period...) and some spots of rust or other material, that decrease the final overall condition of the 12.5c stamp.
Perf: 12.5
SG(177,179,180)  Sc(65,67,68)

8 stamps from the set 10 1967 " President Tito's 75th Birthday " ; this set is very important for me , because one of my goals in this hobby is to complete the year of 1967 in the greatest number of countries possible...I think that this goal is becoming rapidly a secondary one , and the first objective , for me now is to complete the larger number of series possible  ...So , I always need stamps , from every date, country or thematic.. I only need stamps..!! when i finish a 1967 country, I use to make a youtube video..You can always access them at  https://www.youtube.com/user/1967Stamps
Back to President Tito's stamps, I need to say that the values of 15c and 85c are missing ( there should be no problem to finish this set.) .In 1968 , another emission of these stamps was made with different values or same values with different colors..
Perf: 12.5
SG(1246,1247,1249,1250,1251,1252,1253,1273)  Sc(860,861,863,864,865,866,867,869)

I also have a G+ page , that was very important for me , because all this idea of showing the progress of my collection, was taken from all that is happening there.. people like to see stamps ( other collectors , of course..) , old stamps , new stamps, expensive stamps , cheap stamps, etc.. In these moment I have a great difficulty , that is to connect this blog to my G+ circles.. it is a problem ( an old problem..) with my email (to much things connected to the same email...).. I am hopping to resolve this problem in the next few days....

The King, a Boat, a Prison and the Palace

New Entries

Today I have two stamps from San Marino ; the first one belongs to a set 37 1921 "Numerals".. As you can see the stamp has some rust spots , but the overall condition is not to bad..there is nothing special to say about the stamp, and without a National catalog it is really impossible to tell more..
Perf: 14
SG(73)  Sc(41)

this stamp show us "The Rocca " that is the State Prison.it is a ,somehow, beautiful stamp, and it belongs to a set 19 1929. The set was issued between 1929 and 1935 ; International catalogs , don't give names to these series of definitive stamps, so I gave it one "Views from San Marino (1929/1935)"
Perf: 12
SG(152)  Sc(122)

One more time , I wish to say that I am not an expert in any of the countries I collect ( and I collect them all!!) .. Your comments are really very appreciated and I will make special updates to these posts, with the corrections You find (if they are valid , of course!!)...This task of providing You a Online View over the Day to Day New entries in my small collection, exposes my lack of knowledge and other (I like to think they are small..!!..) attitude problems.. I think that in the end it will be a good project..

Here are 5 stamps of the Definitive set 18 1922 "King Albert I (1922/1927)" ; of the stamp of 25c , I could say that there are two colors associated with it.. Magenta and violet.. this one is the violet and the differences in catalog value are small ( I think..!)
Perf: 14
SG(349,353,355,356,364) Sc(147,148,150,151,158)

First I must say that the 75c and 1F stamps could be treated as individual series; the 1st was issued in 01/06/1932 and the 2nd
in 15/06/1931; the others belong to a definitive set 8 1931 "King Albert I (1931/1932)". I really don't like those postmarks with letters( they almost incapacitate the stamp..!) [there is nothing like the old and traditional circular postmark...]
Perf: 14
SG(582,583,585,586,590)  Sc(228,227,230,231,235)

stamp from Set 3 1946 "Ostend-Dover Mail-boat Service Centenary"
Perf: 13.5 x 14
SG(1174a)  Sc(368)

stamp from set 4 1934 "International Exhibition, Brussels."
From my small experience , I could say that a stamp like this could have different varieties associated..for example , stamps that only were sold in the Exhibition itself, special postmarks, etc ( in other countries , some of these varieties exists in events like this one...) .. it's the kind of detail you only get through National catalogs..
Perf: 14 x 13.5
SG(660)  Sc(259)

To finish for today I have a stamp of the series 10 1905 "King Leopold II and  Arms of Belgium (1905/1911)" [one more time , the name doesn't exist...I invented one!]..
Perf: 14
SG(108)  Sc(84)

stamp representing Hermes putting on his sandals ; it belongs to a definitive set 16 (1911/1921) ...among this 16 stamps there are other 2 representations of Hermes and 1 of Iris,  also repeated with different values and colors [Hermes head and Caduceus , Hermes holding Arkas ]. This set appears in substitution of the famous "Flying Mercury" 1901 set.In the classification of these stamps , we have to keep in mind the quality of the paper... it is a white paper with a particular pattern of small "diamond shape" figures. It is quite visible when we put the stamp against the light..this pattern have a vertical orientation for all the stamps of this set . Unwatermarked set.
Perf: 13.5
Sg(223) Sc(207)

stamp from the set 18 (1913/1923) ; the progressive diminished quality of the paper is specially marked in the last years of these period , when various quality's of paper and gums were used..Unwatermarked set

A Numeral, Coats of Arms and Personalities

New Entries

Imperforated stamp from Bavaria 1849 ; the important factor to have in mind when classifying these "remote" numerals is the inner circle.. In this case the circle is cut by the labels... in 1850 a new set is issued with the full circle...
SG(3) Sc(2b)

This set of stamps represents the coat of Arms of Bavaria and was issued from 1870 to 1872.
In these "Coat of Arms" sets the decisive point is the Watermark... there are many similar stamps , only diverging by the wmk.
Perf: 11.5
Sc (24a)

The stamp is damaged in the right perf and has some rust marks..(nothing that bother's me...)
This set was issued from 1881 to 1906; the
wmk show these vertical wavy lines.
