Stone Head

New Entries

Today I have some stamps from Chile..Many beautiful stamps are presented in Chile's Philately.. However , one aspect should be considered.. It is a "most collect" to all the Air Stamps Fans.

these are really "top class" stamps, very well designed , with great detail and a real joy to the eyes..there are 3 series with similar "overall aspect" (the dimensions of the stamp, the frames, etc..) in the same time frame ; these are the main aspects that able us to distinguish them:
   --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1st: 1936 [ 400th Anniversary of the discovery of Chile ] : presents the value at the inferior left corner and the currency label at the inferior right..(Wmk)
   --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2nd: 1938/1940 [ I called "Industry and Nature" ] presents the "$" simbol at the left and the value at the right.. In the middle there is the design label (Wmk)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3rd :  1942/1946 [ "Industry and Nature" ] "$" simbol at the left, value at the right .... in the middle the Currency label ( no Watermarks)
   -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Perforation could be used also to distinguish them , but it is more complex , because it presents different values within the same series [ in all the 3 series ]....printing process also changes within the same series from lithographed to engraved stamps.[ in all the 3 series ].
So, these are stamps from a set 12 "Industry and Nature 1938/1940"
Perf: 14
Sc(205,207,208,209) (Wmk)

Another series with similar aspect, but from a very different time... the quality and detail of the designs is inferior ... some Personality stamps exists in these series, perhaps explorers of these wild landscapes...
stamps from the set 8 "Landscapes and Personalities 1960/1967"
the stamps are from 1961 (1), 1962 (2,3) and 1967 (4)
Perf: 14
Sc(325,328,329,330)

With these stamps, we can consider that they are all from the same series 14 or from two different series 7 with the same name..As we can see ther are normal postage stamps and Air Mail stamps..I prefer to consider it has the same series with "mixed" stamps..
So we have stamps from a set 14 1960/1965 " 150th Anniv of 1st National Government "
Perf: 14.5
Sc(331, C219, C220) [the $10 stamp is Wmk]

from the set 2 1967 "50th Anniv of Pardo's Rescue of Shackleton Expedition" Air Mail
The other stamp of $20 is a current postage stamp.
Perf: 14.5
Sc(C271)

The perforation of this stamp is damaged, but I present it here because I intent to keep it and because it is a very beautiful stamp...
Complete set 1970 "Surcharge on 'Easter Island'"
Perf: 14.5 x 14

The Chariot

New Entries

I'm starting with some beautiful stamps from Mongolia..The first thing that we mark is that these stamps are very different from those large stamps with , sometimes, less evolved paintings that we are accustomed to find ... these are really good stamps and are in the "folder" of the "appealing stamps"...( in my opinion, of course..)..This is the first Mongolian series where human figures appeared, and also landscapes , buildings.etc. before they were more abstract pictures , perhaps with a more religious approach...The aspect that troubles me , in these stamps, is the word "postage".. Why is that a country in the influence of the Soviet Union and/or China, make stamps with the word "postage".??; the stamps from the 30's , 40's and 50's , until 1960 have maintained a very "Chinese " style and in 1960 , something happened.. I'm not in conditions to know what really happened , but something did!! ( I will leave a link to a very good article about Mongolia , in Wikipedia.)
I maybe misinterpreted when I somehow diminished more recent stamps from Mongolia... I like them , I collect them and I have a large number of them(!..), but I prefer this more "Worked and classical " style..
These are stamps from a set 13 1932 "Nature, Culture and Personalities of Mongolia" (invented name., again..)
Perf: 12.5 x 12
SG(46,47,48,49,50,51,52,54) Sc(62,63,64,65,66,67,68,70) Wmk [beautiful and clearly visible]

stamps from Croatia ... the paper used in these stamps , is very thin and plain, similar to that used in some of the Chinese stamps of this same period of time..Yes, these are stamps from 1943/1944 and the featured personality is Ante Pavelic.. [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ante_Paveli%C4%87  ]
This set 20 was issued with two perforations..12.5 and 14 ; this particular 3.50k stamp has a history of it's own..First it is different from the others because of the perforation.(11.5). A simple analysis show that the paper is also different (more thick..); but the story came with the day when it was specially issued ..at 13/06/1943 , Pavelic's Saint's Day (!!??.) it has a superior catalog value [ let me say , that this stamp also exists with normal perforations..]
Perf: 12.5 (3k) 14(1k,2k,4k) 11.5(3.50k)
Sc(64,66,67,68a,69)

also issued in 1943, these stamps belong to a set 3 "Famous Croats"...
Perf: 12 x 12.5
SG(83,84) Sc(57,58)

from the set 2 1943 " Honouring Ruder Boskovic (astronomer)"
Perf: 11
Sc(59)

I received this stamp Yesterday and I came to the conclusion that I only bought 4 stamps in this all year of 2014..and spent less then € 10.00...[ Earth spins in it's perpetual movement and we spin also with our up's and Down's... I think that , perhaps the World have stopped from spinning, because my Up's are kept away from me...]
From the set 12 1896 "1st International Olympic Games"
Perf: 13.5 x 14

The Moose

New Entries

Today I have some Nordic stamps to present..

Some new additions to the set "King Christian X (1942/1946)" ..As I said before, these long series of King Christian X are a pleasure to collect...I have much more to offer in what is concerned with this series , but ... they are not new additions to the collection! I don't know if I already talk about this aspect, but this set is UnWaterMarked...
Let me explain my way of viewing stamp Topics... what information's can I get from this stamp?.
I would classify it in:
1) Known Personalities 2)Military Uniforms 3) Crowns 4) Royal Personality 5) Heraldry
This is a very personal subject , and there is no way of telling that We have the right view of things and the others don't... Like in life , everyone has it's one..

Now let us walk North to Norway

This is a series with beautiful stamps... We must view them in detail , because the background pictures are somehow "fainted"
It is a set of 11 1947 "Tercentenary of Norwegian Post Office" .. It is without doubts, my last addition to the "Most Wanted" folder...
Perf: 13
SG(385,386,387,389,392) Sc(280,281,282,284,287)

Great Ocean Landscape ruined by a Letter Postmark...it is very good the perspective and design of the Cirrus clouds, giving us that sense of depth..it is really a good picture!!
it is from a set 2 1965 "Centenary of Norwegian Red Cross"
Perf: 13
SG(580) Sc(474)

from a set 3 1939... there are two issues of these set.. One , the Original , of 1938, with Wmk and the other , this one of 1939, without Wmk.;  the set is called "Tourist Propaganda"
Perf: 13.5 x 13
SG(262) Sc(184)

To finish this post , I have a set from Sweden... We must consider it by two different ways.1) it is a complete set of stamps with vertical perforation.. 2) it is a incomplete set , if We mix the perforated stamps ( and there is one missing...)  with those of vertical perforation.. I prefer to classify it the second Way , because the pictures are the same and the Name of the series also ( the theme of the series..) remains..
The personalities represented are J.J.Berzelius (10;30) and Carl Von Linne (15;50;15)
From a set 6 1939 "Bicentenary  of the Swedish Academy of Sciences"
Perf: N/A x 12.5 and 12.5
Sc(293,294,295,296,297)

The Parasite

New Entries

This is a homage to Picasso made by the Polish Postal Service. It is a stamp that reminds me of a host and it's parasite.. the " parasite"  stamp can not live without the main stamp ( the "Host" ), because it has no currency , country label and in the end no value... in this case we are in presence of a very nasty "parasite" (I should say that among many things that I am , a Picasso Fan is not one of them...).(!!)..
These stamps are from a set of (1+1)+MS from 1981 "Birth Centenary of Pablo Picasso"
Perf: 11 x 11.5
SG(2719) Sc(2432)

Now , we are in presence of stamps from one of the famous series from Brazil..First I want to apologize for the condition of some of my Brazilian stamps.. They were bought , immediately after I have taken control of the collection..It was a 400 stamps lot and it had everything from the early days of Republic, many definitive stamps, some from the Monarchy  and many commemorative from the 30's to 60's... it was a very complete lot because it gave a general view of the Brazilian Philately.. However , the stamps were in general bad condition... In these Blog I committed myself to present only the stamps that are entering in the collection ( stamps that are in the classification period..), so I have to present them , and someday in the future , who knows, replace them for better condition stamps.
I want to emphases once again that the ideal situation is to have a world Catalog and a National catalog... In the case of Brazil stamps , a National catalog is a real necessity , because when We think We have finished a series ( according to world catalogs..), we haven't reached yet to the middle of it , according to the National catalog...
in the world Catalog this set has 16 stamps , but in the National we have to count 44 (different tonalities..to each one , a different catalog value.)
The original series goes only until the 5.00cr stamp.. I present here stamps until the 20.00cr stamp..in this original set from 1954/1960 , the figures are presented against a clear and plain background.; in the following issue from 1959/1964 the background presents some small or large squares...(here We have the 3 varieties present in this series)[plain , small squares, large squares background]..
The stamps that I present here , are , I think, all of the original set except the 20cr.. this last stamp is in very bad condition not only because of the perforation but also because of the horrible printing..
All of these stamps have 11.5 x 11 perforation.. I will not present in this case catalog numbers , because of the reasons explained above..(I'm following the National Catalog...]

A trio that appeared, belonging to the same series above..

The Beautiful Cinderella ??

Today I don't have time to do my usual post with new entries on the collection, so I remembered some stamps I have that I don't know the origin .. I have a lot of these stamps, I seem to have a magnet or so , to unknown stamps  (the conclusion is that sellers often tried to fool me with these stamps..!.)
I really don't mind having them, because sometimes they are really beautiful...
That is the case of this incomplete set of ?? from 1989 "???" ; I don't know the country also...
I need some help of my Stamp Friends , and I though that today is a good day to say "HELP IS NEEDED"
please say something...

perhaps if someone understands what is written ( always different things in each stamp) in the stamps could help me...

Well, I hope someone could solve this mystery ... Last time I have presented one , it was solved in 15 minutes.!!

Well, Goodbye
SeeYou Tomorrow

The Lighthouse

New Entries

Yesterday I spent all the night classifying these group of 21 stamps...I started after have watched my Benfica win Juventus..(Good game!!), so they were  22.00H.. I finished at 01.30H of the morning..(with 1 or 2 stops to smoke ...).. All of this to say that it should be many more time if the stamps were from different series...15 of them belong only to 4 series, and in this cases I can use the "Clone" tool of my software...that is to say , if you have 4 stamps of the same series , you just have to fill one time the main characteristics of the set (perforation, width, height, watermarks, name of the series, date of issue [if it is the same for all stamps], Country, etc, and just copy("clone" it ) it and change catalog number, color, face value and catalog value of the stamp... It is a very valuable tool , because of the time saved in repetitions some times boring... I think that today all the stamp Software's have this Tool, but I just have found it a Year or so after I began working with the program..(Clone?? Hmmm... let's see what is this ...)

the stamps I present today are all common stamps , of very small catalog value... Yet, they are real works of Art...In my opinion , Russian stamps are , with very few exceptions, very well designed, in most cases a pleasure to see..(Ohu..!! I remember now those ugly stamps from the standard definitive series from 1922 to 1927 ... )

UPU

New Entries

There are Countries difficult to collect... Hungary is not one of them !!.. The abundance of resources of all the ages of Hungarian Philately, is notorious.. When I first began to be an active collector (that is to say, a buyer..!!), great and cheap lots were my main goal... In the group of those that were always available , Hungarian stamps were on the "lead".. Personally , the target I choose after 2 or 3 years were the 30's, 40's and 50's.. not only with Hungarian stamps, but with all countries.. perhaps this decision was influenced by my idea that those were interesting days to live...
So I can say that if there is anything never lacking at my home , Hungarian stamps to classify are for certain one of them..; this abundance , however don't reflect the quality and the variety of these stamps.. not always the most common is the worst...! It is indeed a great Philately and offers to the collector every kind of challenges and opportunities... issues with different kinds of paper and watermarks, great variety of overprints, surcharges, etc,  topics of all kinds , beautiful designs , etc...

Costumes are a theme for at least one series for each country... European countries have done so , over the 40's , 50's and 60's and Hungary was not an exception.
These series became marks in each country Philately..
